Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about what Filing Clarity does, how it works, and what you get.
What is Filing Clarity?
Filing Clarity monitors SEC filings 24/7 and delivers plain-English signals for every new filing. Every signal includes historical context — what management said before, what changed, and what to watch for next.
What types of signals do you generate?
Filing Clarity monitors all major SEC filing types, including 8-K material events, Form 4 insider transactions, 10-Q and 10-K quarterly and annual reports, SC 13D/13G shareholder movements, earnings releases, and more. You can customize which signal types you receive and how, from the Signal Types page.
How quickly are signals delivered?
Usually within an hour of the filing appearing on SEC EDGAR. Earnings-call transcripts take longer — typically a few hours after the call ends.
What companies do you cover?
Filing Clarity monitors 3,000+ SEC-reporting companies, including the entire S&P 500. You can add any SEC-reporting company to your watchlist and we will begin monitoring it.
What is an ecosystem signal?
An ecosystem signal alerts you to a filing from a company you don't directly follow — a competitor, supplier, or customer of a company you do follow. Filings from a company's ecosystem often foreshadow developments at the companies you own. Ecosystem signals always explain the relevance to your specific holding.
What is a Custom Signal?
Custom Signals let you define exactly what to watch for in plain English. For example: "Alert me when any company in my watchlist mentions China revenue for the first time," or "Alert me when management stops using the phrase 'AI infrastructure investment.'" Filing Clarity monitors every new filing against your custom conditions automatically. Included in your plan.
What's the difference between Custom Alerts and Custom Signals?
Custom Alerts watch the signals we already generate and fire when they cross a threshold, scope, or combination you define — e.g. "four or more insiders sell within 30 days" (a tighter threshold than our built-in cluster signal), or "only insider sales at NVDA and AAPL." They're checked daily and delivered as an email. Custom Signals watch the actual text of every new filing for things our standard signals don't track — e.g. "the first time a company mentions China revenue." They're evaluated in real time and appear as a new signal in your feed. In short: Custom Alerts are patterns over the events we already detect; Custom Signals are new detectors over the raw filing text.
Can I search across everything Filing Clarity has read?
Yes. Press ⌘K (or Ctrl + K) anywhere in the app, or click Search in the top bar, to open a global search box. It searches by meaning — not just keywords — across earnings-call transcripts, signals, and company Intelligence Profiles, so a query like “export controls on China” finds the right passage even when those exact words aren’t used.
Can I just ask a question about my portfolio?
Yes. The Ask Filing Clarity panel on your dashboard answers natural-language questions — “which clients hold NVDA?”, “what happened at Apple this week?”, “whose earnings are coming up?” — using only your own watchlist and our filing data, with a link back to the source for every answer. It never invents figures; if there’s no activity, it says so.
I hold ETFs — can Filing Clarity monitor them?
Filing Clarity monitors individual companies rather than funds, so when you add an ETF (by hand or via a portfolio import) we offer to expand it into its top holdings as a group you can monitor for filings and signals. And on any company page, an “In your ETFs” note shows which of your funds give you exposure to that company — so an ETF-heavy portfolio still gets real filing coverage.
How is this different from Seeking Alpha?
Seeking Alpha summarizes what management said. Filing Clarity shows what changed from what they said before — connecting each signal to years of prior filings and earnings call history. Filing Clarity also monitors your ecosystem automatically and delivers signals from the source filing, not day-late commentary.
Is this investment advice?
No. Filing Clarity delivers information derived from public SEC filings. Nothing on Filing Clarity constitutes investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
